About The Position

The Certified Medical Assistant / Registered Medical Assistant performs routine administrative and patient care support duties in a medical practice to assist medical and/or nursing staff in the examination and treatment of patients and ensures that the office runs smoothly. In addition to a variety of duties associated with daily clinic preparation process, patient identification, patient check in, charge posting, cash management and basic patient appointment scheduling. Conveys a positive image and provides information to ensure patients' needs are met.

  • Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) — American Allied Health (AAH)
  • High School Diploma / GED
  • CMA experience

Responsibilities

  • Rooming Patients: Collect pertinent information regarding the patient's chief complaint, take vital signs, and complete medication reconciliation.
  • Medication Administration: Administer adult and pediatric medications precisely per provider orders.
  • Prescription Refills: Provide assistance with refills per department protocols. Call into pharmacies, notify patients, and document in the EMR.
  • Patient Education: Provide written instructions for procedures/medications and retrieve condition-specific education per provider directions.
  • Exams & Procedures: Assist providers with exams and procedures. Perform EKGs, ear washes, vision screenings, dressing changes, wound care, and splint applications/removals.
  • Point of Care Testing: Complete diagnostic point of care testing.
  • TB Screening: Read negative TB skin tests. Steer patients to a department nurse when TB screening appears to have indications of a positive result.
  • Competency Maintenance: Maintain department-specific competencies related to point of care testing, equipment handling, and specialty training.
  • Rounding: Perform routine waiting room and exam room rounding.
  • Telephone Interactions: Complete telephone communications with patients, families, pharmacies, and other healthcare facilities per department protocols.
  • Administrative Tasks: Manage prior authorizations, schedule appointments, verify benefits, and coordinate referrals and testing.
