About The Position

Dermatology Institute is seeking a Certified Medical Assistant (CMA or RMA) to support our Mohs surgery team across our Newnan and LaGrange, GA locations. This is a hands-on, surgical role working closely with a Mohs surgeon in a fast-paced dermatology setting. This opportunity is ideal for candidates interested in dermatology, surgical assisting, or those pursuing a future in medicine (including gap year pre-med or pre-PA students). The practice is a growing dermatology practice focused on delivering high-quality medical, surgical, and cosmetic skin care. Our providers specialize in procedures such as Mohs surgery and are committed to excellent patient outcomes, a collaborative team environment, and hands-on training for our staff.

Requirements

  • Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA)
  • At least 1 year of recent experience as a Medical Assistant, Surgical Assistant, or in a clinical patient care setting (dermatology or surgical experience preferred)
  • Knowledge of HIPAA and infection control standards
  • Ability to stand for extended periods of time during procedures
  • Ability to lift and move at least 15 pounds
  • Frequent bending, reaching, and use of hands during patient care and surgical support
  • Ability to safely assist patients with mobility as needed

Nice To Haves

  • Experience assisting with procedures (biopsies, excisions, Mohs surgery, or similar) preferred
  • Completion of a Medical Assistant, CNA, Surgical Tech, or Bachelor’s degree in a pre-med/pre-PA track preferred
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to multitask effectively
  • Excellent communication skills with providers, patients, and team members
  • Professional, patient-focused approach with strong customer service skills

Responsibilities

  • Escort patients to exam and procedure rooms; assist with mobility as needed
  • Collect patient history, perform intake, take vital signs, and complete screenings per provider guidelines
  • Complete pre-operative intake, explain procedures, and address patient questions within scope
  • Prepare surgical rooms, instruments, and sterile trays for Mohs procedures
  • Assist the physician during procedures (passing instruments, suturing support, blotting, etc.)
  • Administer local anesthesia and support hemostasis using cautery (per provider direction)
  • Cleanse, disinfect, and drape surgical sites using proper sterile technique
  • Apply bandages and review post-operative wound care instructions with patients
  • Remove sutures and assist with follow-up care
  • Collect, label, and process pathology specimens; maintain accurate pathology logs
  • Route specimens to appropriate labs based on insurance requirements
  • Document all patient interactions and procedures accurately in EMR
  • Notify patients of lab and pathology results as directed
  • Maintain exam room cleanliness, sterilize instruments (autoclave), and restock supplies
  • Ensure compliance with HIPAA and infection control protocols
  • Support overall clinic flow and assist with additional duties as needed
