About The Position

This role involves both clinical and administrative duties within a Pediatric Gastroenterology practice. The Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) will perform direct patient care activities under the direction of a physician, Charge RN, or Manager. This includes patient intake, blood draws, pharmacy calls, EKGs, and other physician-required tests, with accurate documentation in an EMR system. The Business Associate (BA) will handle front desk operations, including greeting patients, registration, insurance verification, payment collection, managing the daily patient schedule, and answering incoming calls for appointments, medication refills, or inquiries. This role requires close collaboration with clinical staff to ensure smooth patient flow and support for the practice and professional staff as directed by the Practice Manager.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Completion of a formal Medical Assistant program recognized by the State of New Jersey.
  • Current and valid certification as a certified medical assistant or registered medical assistant recognized by the Board of Examiners (e.g., AMT, AAMA, NCCT).
  • Completion of formal coursework in office management, database management, or business.
  • Six (6) months of previous customer service/data entry, administrative/office management/clerical experience.
  • Ability to use effective organizational and time management skills.
  • Strong communication skills (oral, written, presentation).

Nice To Haves

  • Previous MA experience in a clinic, physician's office, or outpatient setting preferred.
  • BCLS certification preferred upon hire.
  • Understanding of the operations of a medical practice preferred.
  • Strong orientation towards the provisions of high quality, cost effective and comprehensive medical care.
  • Position may require rotating to other VMG locations from time to time when necessary.

Responsibilities

  • Greet, register, ensure insurance compliance, and collect payments at time of service.
  • Maintain the daily patient schedule and answer incoming calls.
  • Schedule appointments, handle medication refills, and relay inquiries of a clinical or billing nature.
  • Coordinate with clinical staff on special needs or requirements and ensure proper patient flow.
  • Support the Practice and professional staff as directed or requested by the Practice Manager.
