About The Position

This role combines the responsibilities of a Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) and a Business Associate (BA) in a Neurology setting. The CMA performs direct clinical activities under physician direction, including patient intake, blood draws, pharmacy calls, EKGs, and other physician-required tests. They are responsible for accurate EMR documentation and maintaining close working relationships with practice staff for optimal workflow and patient care. The BA handles essential front desk activities such as greeting patients, registration, insurance compliance, and payment collection. They manage the daily patient schedule, answer incoming calls for appointments, medication refills, and clinical/billing inquiries. The BA also coordinates with clinical staff for special patient needs and ensures smooth patient flow, supporting the practice and professional staff as directed by the Practice Manager.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Completion of a formal Medical Assistant program recognized by the State of New Jersey.
  • Certification as a Certified Medical Assistant or Registered Medical Assistant recognized by the Board of Examiners (e.g., AMT, AAMA, NCCT) required.
  • Completion of formal coursework in office management, database management, or business, computer literacy.
  • Six (6) months of previous customer service/data entry, administrative/office management/clerical experience required.
  • Current and valid certification as a certified medical assistant or registered medical assistant recognized by the Board of Examiners such as American Medical Technology (AMT), American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA), National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT) required.
  • Ability to use effective organizational and time management skills to set priorities and respond quickly to urgent/emergent situations.
  • Strong communication--both oral, written and presentation skills to convey information in a clear and concise manner to persons of varied age groups, customers and/or groups.
  • Ability to create, maintain and support a high functioning team; establish and foster cooperative working relationships with staff and management; and function effectively as part of that team.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous MA experience in a clinic, physician's office or outpatient setting preferred.
  • Understanding of the operations of a medical practice preferred.
  • Strong orientation towards the provisions of high quality, cost effective and comprehensive medical care.
  • BCLS certification preferred upon hire, will be required.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain close working relationships with all practice staff to ensure proper workflow, care, and treatment.
  • Greet patients, register them, ensure insurance compliance, and collect appropriate payment at time of service.
  • Maintain the daily patient schedule.
  • Answer all incoming calls, scheduling appointments, handling medication refills, or relaying inquiries of a clinical or billing nature.
  • Coordinate with clinical staff on any special needs or requirements and ensure proper patient flow.
  • Support the Practice and professional staff as directed or requested by the Practice Manager.
  • Represent the organization positively at all times.
