About The Position

The Certified Laboratory Assistant is responsible for obtaining blood and other specimens from patients, processing them correctly, and assisting with various laboratory and clerical duties. This role also involves maintaining a clean and organized work environment, performing courier duties, and assisting with front office tasks. The position requires a compassionate and respectful approach to both colleagues and patients, promoting the hospital's mission and vision, and actively practicing the organization's PRIDE values.

Requirements

  • Must be a Certified Laboratory Assistant.
  • Must be able to engage both fellow employees and customers with compassion and respect.

Nice To Haves

  • Competency in arterial draws.
  • Competency in specimen processing and microbiology processing.
  • Experience with registration, answering phones, and drug screen paperwork.
  • Experience in mentoring and competency check-off of new Laboratory Assistants.

Responsibilities

  • Obtain blood and other specimens from patients and process them correctly, including arterial draws after competency is completed.
  • Correctly process specimens received through the tube system or brought from outside sources.
  • Assist in clerical duties.
  • Disinfect all counters each shift.
  • Clean morgue when needed and maintain supplies.
  • Perform courier duties when needed.
  • Perform specimen processing duties and microbiology processing duties as outlined in competency checklist.
  • Assist with front office duties as needed, including registration, answering phones, and assisting with drug screen paperwork.
  • Assist with mentoring and competency check-off of new Laboratory Assistants.
  • Engage both fellow employees and customers with compassion and respect.

  • Keep phlebotomy trays clean and maintained with supplies so they are always ready for use.
