About The Position

The Certified Instrument Specialist Technician reports to the Manager, Sterile Processing. Under general supervision of the department manager, shift supervisor or designee, the Certified Instrument Specialist Technician performs instrument production, case assembly, sterile processing, decontamination of surgical instruments in compliance with medical center policies and procedures, state, local and federal requirements. This position participates in quality improvement initiatives and functions as a preceptor to new hires.

Requirements

  • Graduate of high school or GED equivalency examination.
  • Must be certified and maintain a certification in sterile processing from HSPA (Healthcare Sterile Processing Association) or CBSPD (Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution).
  • At least three (3) years of experience in sterile processing and/or leadership role.
  • Possess ability to understand and implement a variety of detailed instructions in the execution of processes.
  • Must communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Basic computer skills required.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, high pressure health care environment required.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills required.
  • Detail oriented required.
  • Holiday work and emergency management/disaster team work required.
  • Continuous standing, sitting, and walking.
  • Continuous working indoors.
  • Frequent working from elevated areas.
  • Frequent working in confined/cramped spaces.

  • Infrequent lift up to 25 lbs. overhead.
  • Frequent exertion up to 50 lbs. of force.
  • Continuous maintain corrected vision 20/40 (one or both eyes).
  • Continuous recognize objects (near/far).
  • Continuous color discrimination.
  • Continuous depth perception.
  • Continuous peripheral vision.
  • Continuous hearing acuity (with correction).
  • Continuous tactile sensory function.
  • Gross motor with fine motor coordination.

  • Respirator use qualification.

Nice To Haves

  • Certified Instrument Specialist (CIS) and/or Certified Healthcare Leader (CHL) certification preferred.
  • Leadership, supervisory or management experience preferred.
