About The Position

St. Elizabeth Healthcare is hiring a Certified Hyperbaric Safety Coordinator for our Outpatient Wound Care Clinic. The Certified Hyperbaric Safety Coordinator acts as the attendant and control operator of the hyperbaric oxygen (HBO) chamber under the direction of the HBO physician and HBO Registered Nurse. The Certified Hyperbaric Safety Coordinator will act in the role of Hyperbaric Safety Director (HSD) per UHMS guidelines, and assist with development, maintenance, and management a safety program based upon compliance with recognized standards. This position is responsible for the safe and effective operation of the hyperbaric chamber(s) and related support systems, as well as for the safe delivery of hyperbaric oxygen therapy to the hyperbaric patient. The position is also responsible for the day-to-day maintenance on the hyperbaric chamber(s) and related support systems and serves as the point person for assessment of materials that are appropriate for use in and around hyperbaric chambers. Demonstrates respect, dignity, kindness and empathy in each encounter with all patients, families, visitors and other employees regardless of cultural background.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma.
  • Registered Respiratory Technician or LPN
  • BLS Certification
  • Successful completion of preceptorship and orientation to the health system and clinical area.
  • Two years of experience in patient care environment.
  • 6 months’ experience working in an HBO setting, including chamber operations.

Nice To Haves

  • Certification as a Hyperbaric Technologist through the National Board of Diving & Hyperbaric Medical Technology within three years of hire.
  • Completion of an approved Hyperbaric Oxygen Safety course once hired.
  • Must complete HBO Safety Director course once hired.
  • Able to think critically and problem solve in clinical situations.
  • Maintains current skills, knowledge and competencies in chronic wound care and hyperbaric oxygen therapy.
  • Hyperbaric Safety Director role requires comprehensive training in the safety aspects of hyperbaric medicine and related technology.
  • As HSD, working knowledge of HBO required. Knowledge of HBO pertains to chamber safety, chamber usage, HBO treatments, chamber maintenance, treatment scheduling and HBO physiology.
  • Hyperbaric equipment and related systems troubleshooting skills.
