About The Position

Koniag Operations Services, LLC a Koniag Government Services company, is seeking a skilled Certified HVAC Technician to install, maintain, and repair heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems at a government facility in Charleston, SC. The ideal candidate will be a licensed professional with comprehensive knowledge of HVAC systems, strong diagnostic abilities, and a commitment to delivering high-quality service while ensuring compliance with all applicable codes and regulations. This position requires an active Top Secret security clearance to support KOS and our government customer. The Certified HVAC Technician will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems within commercial and industrial facility settings. This position requires strong technical expertise, the ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team, and a commitment to ensuring all HVAC systems operate efficiently and safely.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent; completion of accredited HVAC technical training program or apprenticeship
  • Valid Journeyman HVAC License (or state equivalent for South Carolina)
  • EPA 608 Certification (Universal preferred)
  • Current annual continuing education certificates in HVAC or related fields
  • Minimum of 3 years of hands-on experience in HVAC installation, maintenance, and repair
  • Valid driver's license
  • Active Top Secret security clearance
  • Comprehensive knowledge of HVAC systems, components, refrigeration cycles, and climate control principles
  • Strong understanding of heating systems including furnaces, boilers, heat pumps, and radiant heating
  • Proficiency in air conditioning and refrigeration systems, including chillers, cooling towers, and split systems
  • Expert knowledge of EPA regulations regarding refrigerant handling, recovery, and disposal
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical specifications
  • Advanced troubleshooting and diagnostic skills with the ability to identify complex system issues
  • Proficiency using HVAC diagnostic tools including multimeters, manifold gauges, leak detectors, and airflow measurement devices
  • Strong understanding of electrical systems, controls, and building automation systems
  • Knowledge of local, state, and federal building codes, OSHA safety regulations, and industry standards
  • Excellent mechanical aptitude with hands-on experience using hand tools, power tools, and specialized HVAC equipment
  • Physical ability to perform demanding tasks including lifting up to 75 pounds, climbing ladders, working on rooftops, and accessing tight spaces
  • Strong attention to detail with commitment to quality workmanship and safety protocols
  • Effective communication skills with the ability to explain technical issues to non-technical personnel
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and as a collaborative team member
  • Flexibility to respond to after-hours emergencies and participate in on-call rotation
  • Commitment to maintaining required licenses, certifications, and continuing education requirements

Responsibilities

  • Install, maintain, and repair heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems and equipment including furnaces, air handlers, condensers, compressors, chillers, and related components
  • Diagnose HVAC system malfunctions using diagnostic tools, technical manuals, and testing equipment to identify root causes and determine appropriate repair solutions
  • Perform preventive maintenance on HVAC systems according to manufacturer specifications and maintenance schedules to ensure optimal performance and longevity
  • Conduct routine inspections of HVAC equipment, ductwork, refrigeration lines, and control systems to identify potential issues and ensure proper operation
  • Test HVAC system performance, including temperature controls, airflow, refrigerant levels, and electrical components to ensure systems meet operational specifications
  • Repair or replace defective components including motors, compressors, belts, filters, thermostats, and control systems
  • Charge and recover refrigerants in accordance with EPA regulations and environmental safety standards
  • Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical specifications to perform installations and repairs
  • Ensure all work is performed in compliance with local, state, and federal codes, regulations, and safety standards
  • Maintain accurate records of all maintenance activities, repairs, parts used, and system performance data in work orders and computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS)
  • Respond promptly to emergency service calls and system failures to minimize downtime and restore comfort conditions
  • Collaborate with other maintenance technicians, engineers, and contractors to complete complex projects and system installations
  • Maintain inventory of HVAC parts, tools, and materials necessary for routine maintenance and emergency repairs
  • Provide technical guidance and support to junior technicians as needed
  • Stay current with HVAC technology advancements, industry best practices, and continuing education requirements
