About The Position

NaphCare is hiring a Certified Hemodialysis Technician (CHT) to join our team of medical professionals in the Alabama Department of Corrections - St. Clair in Springville, AL. As a Correctional Certified Hemodialysis Technician (CHT), you will work alongside correctional officers and other medical professionals to provide direct patient care and assist with hemodialysis treatments and related tasks to the individuals in residence. This is a unique position where you can make a difference to this diverse population of patients with complex mental health and medical needs.

Requirements

  • Certified Clinical Hemodialysis Technician (CCHT) or equivalent, or the ability to obtain certification within a specified timeframe.
  • Must hold High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Must possess an active BLS CPR Certification (AHA required).
  • Ability to interact effectively with patients from diverse backgrounds, including those with mental health or substance abuse issues.
  • Must have the ability to maintain confidentiality of all proprietary and/or confidential information and integrity, professionalism and ability to adhere to a Code of Conduct and comply with all facility(s) correctional healthcare policies, procedures, and legal requirements.
  • Must pass the facility’s criminal background check and drug screening.

Responsibilities

  • Provides direct patient care during hemodialysis treatments.
  • Assists with monitoring patients, maintaining equipment, and ensuring a safe and clean environment under the supervision of a licensed nurse.
  • Observes patients during hemodialysis, monitors vital signs, and reports any changes in condition to the nurse.
  • Prepares and maintains dialysis machines, ensuring proper sterilization, and troubleshooting technical issues.
  • Assists with cannulation, administers medications like heparin, and provides basic care for vascular access sites.
  • Maintains a clean and sanitary environment, adhering to infection control protocols.
  • Educates patients about dialysis, post-dialysis care, and healthy lifestyle choices.
  • Responds quickly and efficiently to any emergency situations that may arise during treatment.
  • Accurately records patient information, treatment details, and any relevant observations in medical records.
  • Maintains patient privacy and confidentiality of all medical information.
  • Effectively communicates with patients, other healthcare staff, and correctional staff.
