About The Position

New Paradigm For Education (NPFE) is a non-profit Charter Management Organization (CMO) dedicated to maximizing student learning potential through proven educational practices. NPFE serves 2,100 students in Detroit, Michigan, with a mission to ensure all students achieve at the highest levels. We are seeking educators who believe in the potential of all students and are driven by academic achievement, continuous growth, and a passion for working in rigorous and supportive environments. We value culturally responsive educators with experience in diverse communities and strong relationship-building skills. NPFE seeks a certified and highly qualified English-as-a-Second Language teacher to work with English Language Learner (ELL) students in the areas of listening, speaking, reading, writing, and grammar and vocabulary acquisition. The ESL teacher will use appropriate strategies to help learners at each level of language acquisition and development. The ESL teacher will work within the classroom in an inclusion model for students who need assistance in understanding English, and will also provide specific ESL small group instruction courses, consistently collaborating with general education teachers and other school staff.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in education
  • Must have - or be on a path to - a valid Michigan Teaching Certificate with an ESL endorsement
  • Prior classroom experience working with English Language Learners

Responsibilities

  • Uses various teaching methods to promote language acquisition, including intensive individualized instruction and small group learning
  • Administers assessments and screeners to determine specific student needs and services - and support teachers in understanding and utilizing these data points
  • Ensures students receive appropriate accommodations and set personalized learning goals
  • Monitors student progress and develop plans to transition students out of ESL programming as appropriate
  • Keeps up-to-date and accurate records of student progress and required documentation
  • Helps general educators adapt curriculum materials and teaching techniques to meet the needs of English Language Learners
  • Develops systems to monitor student progress on an individual, classroom, and school level
  • Other ancillary duties as assigned or needed
