About The Position

The Certified Caregiver provides residents with routine daily care and medication services in a caring and respectful manner, in accordance with each resident’s assessment and service plan. The role supports residents’ dignity, safety, wellbeing, social participation, and personal-care preferences while following facility policies, procedures, regulations, and the Platinum Service® principles. The position may involve exposure to blood, body fluids, infectious diseases, air contaminants, and hazardous chemicals. Emerald Springs Senior Living serves independent living, assisted living, memory care, and respite care residents in the Yuma community.

Requirements

Meet all applicable state and federal requirements for the position.
Be able to make independent decisions and follow instructions.
Deal tactfully with personnel, prospects, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies or personnel, and the public.
Be capable of working with ill, disabled, elderly, and emotionally upset people.
Communicate effectively with supervisors, team members, prospects, residents, and families.
Maintain confidentiality and resident privacy.
Have knowledge of or proficiency with the facility’s EHR.
Ability to lift 50 pounds; moving, lifting, or transferring residents may involve lifting up to 75 pounds.
Ability to exert maximum muscle force to lift and carry to a height of 3 feet and push and pull to a distance of 5 feet.
Ability to use abdominal and lower-back muscles over time without fatigue.
Ability to stand for extended periods and bend, stoop, stretch, twist, sit, and reach.
Fine motor skills.
Ability to execute tasks independently, express oneself clearly and effectively verbally, concentrate on moderate details with frequent interruptions, and meet visual-acuity and hearing-alertness requirements.

Nice To Haves

Six months or more of experience in home care, assisted living, or a long-term care facility.

Responsibilities

Assist residents with activities of daily living, including bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, transferring, and mobility, while maintaining dignity and respect.
Move and transfer residents into and out of beds, chairs, bathtubs, wheelchairs, and lifts, following safety and transfer techniques.
Communicate relevant information, including incident report details and observed or suspected changes in a resident’s condition, promptly to a supervisor.
Assist residents with walking, with or without self-help devices, as instructed.
Encourage residents to socialize and participate in scheduled activities and outings, and assist with those activities as needed.
Respond promptly and courteously to resident alerts, needs, and requests for care, providing assistance as needed.
Observe residents’ emotional condition and promptly report changes to the nurse.
Promote personal safety and a safe environment by observing infection-control practices, following facility guidelines, and reporting unsafe situations to the nurse or management.
Check residents according to their service schedules to ensure personal-care needs are met in accordance with their wishes.
Assist with fire and other safety drills to ensure resident safety.
Assist with medications according to health care provider instructions, the Medication Administration Record, and the scope of the caregiver’s certification.
Document medication administration, effectiveness, and noted side effects accurately according to policies, standards of care, and applicable regulations; report adverse reactions or side effects to a supervisor or Director of Nursing.
Perform other essential job-related duties as assigned.
Provide courteous, responsive, competent, timely, and quality service to residents in accordance with the Platinum Service® program.
Follow all policies and procedures.
