About The Position

Holy Cross Health, recognized as one of America's Best Employers for Healthcare Professionals, is seeking a Certified Oncology Data Specialist to provide remote cancer registry operations. This role involves abstracting, case finding, and follow-up according to Commission on Cancer (CoC) and state standards, ensuring timely completion of data requests. Requirements

  • Active Certified Oncology Data Specialist (ODS) certification required.
  • Minimum of an Associate’s degree with completed coursework in Anatomy and Physiology, pathophysiology, medical terminology, and pharmacology and computer basics.
  • Minimum of 1-3 years of varied experience in cancer registry, including abstracting duties.
  • Experience working in a Commission on Cancer accredited facility.
  • Proficient knowledge and extensive experience with STORE; Site Specific Data Item Manual, AJCC Staging.
  • Knowledge of the SEER and NAACCR Standards.
  • Knowledge of state reporting requirements.
  • Direct experience with ACoS survey under the current standards is required.
  • Proficient with various Cancer Registry software (e.g., Metriq, Oncolog, ERS, Rocky Mountain, CNext, Abstract Plus).
  • Proficient knowledge of MS Office including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with electronic health records, EPIC and Mosaiq.

Responsibilities

  • Review all diagnostic reports and the disease index to determine case eligibility.
  • Enter newly identified cases into the cancer registry database, METRIQ.
  • Abstract reportable cases within six months of the date of first contact, capturing all required data elements.
  • Obtain follow-up information at least annually for all living patients in the cancer registry database.
  • Regularly transmit data to the Florida Cancer Data System (FCDS), Rapid Cancer Reporting System (RCRS), and the National Cancer Data Base (NCDB).
  • Maintain a working knowledge of applicable Federal, state, and local laws/regulations, Trinity Health Integrity & Compliance Program & Code of conduct, and other policies and procedures to ensure adherence.
  • Consistently code at a 95% threshold for accuracy and quality while maintaining Trinity Health production and/or quality standards.
  • Communicate effectively in various settings with colleagues, medical staff, and other hospital departments.
  • Act as a change agent to implement operational efficiencies.
