As a Bus Mechanic II, you will take on complex diagnostics, repairs, and inspections while helping maintain the safety and reliability of a diverse District fleet. This position offers the opportunity to use your technical expertise in meaningful work, solve challenging mechanical problems, support the development of other mechanics, and make a direct contribution to safe and dependable student transportation every day. The Bus Mechanic II (Certified Bus Mechanic) is the advanced, certified level within the District’s bus mechanic career progression. The position independently performs advanced and complex maintenance, diagnostics, inspections, and repairs on District school buses, trucks, vans, automobiles, grounds maintenance equipment, and other fleet vehicles and equipment. The position diagnoses complex mechanical, electrical, electronic, and computerized vehicle systems; performs major and safety-critical repairs; conducts required vehicle and school bus inspections; and evaluates vehicle safety and operational readiness in accordance with District, state, and federal requirements. The position exercises advanced technical judgment and works with a high degree of independence. Serves as a technical resource to Bus Mechanic I employees and other Transportation staff by providing technical guidance related to diagnostics, repair procedures, inspections, and skill development. The position does not have formal supervisory responsibility unless specifically assigned.
