This role involves the operation and monitoring of multiple fuel water tube or firetube boilers and associated auxiliary equipment to provide steam or high-temperature hot water for building heat, sterilization, and other facility needs. The operator will be responsible for starting, regulating, and securing boilers, adjusting combustion controls, shifting between natural gas and fuel oil as required, and maintaining proper steam pressure and temperature. Key duties include testing boiler water samples, performing chemical treatment, and documenting results to ensure safe and efficient operation. The position also requires performing routine operational maintenance on various equipment and coordinating more extensive repairs. The operator will respond to system alarms, perform after-hours trouble calls when assigned, and coordinate corrective actions. Deliverables include daily operating logs, boiler water chemistry logs, safety device test records, and trouble call/incident reports. The role also involves providing minor repairs, preventive maintenance, assisting with installations, and troubleshooting electrical systems and burners. The incumbent will operate a graphic control computer, monitor alarms, and interpret manuals, directives, and regulations to apply them to plant operations.
