About The Position

Potomac Healthcare Solutions is proud to offer a rewarding opportunity to work at Longwood University (D1) in charming Farmville, Virginia and invites applications for an Athletic Trainer in the Athletics Department. The successful candidate will be responsible for working with the team physician and the Head Athletic Trainer within guidelines set forth by the NATA, NCAA, and the Commonwealth of Virginia to ensure the health and welfare of Longwood University intercollegiate athletes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree (Physical Education, Kinesiology, Physiology, Athletic Training, Biomechanics/Movement Science) or related field.
  • Graduated from a CAATE Accredited Program required.
  • BOC Certified as an Athletic Trainer required.
  • Eligible for Virginia State Licensure required.
  • CPR, First Aid and AED certified for the Professional Rescuer.
  • Must be a US Citizen.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s Degree Preferred.
  • CPR, First Aid and AED instructor certified preferred.
  • Experience as a college athletic trainer preferred (1-2 years’ experience).

Responsibilities

  • Perform a full range of Certified Athletic Trainer duties. All services performed shall fall within those guidelines established by the National Athletic Trainers Association, American College of Sports Medicine, and American Medical Society for Sports Medicine.
  • Evaluation/treatment of injury/illness to Longwood student-athletes
  • Document the evaluation, treatments, rehabilitation, referrals, of injured/ill Longwood student-athletes
  • Provide appropriate medical coverage during athletic events/practices/travel with teams.
  • Refer injured/ill athletes to team physicians/consultants regarding injuries/illnesses/care when necessary.
  • Communicate effectively with coaches and student-athletes alike regarding injuries and playing status.
  • Communicate effectively with team physicians.
  • Counseling/advising student-athletes and coaches regarding health, conditioning, illness or injury.
  • Apply appropriate protective padding/braces/strapping/other orthotic devices.
  • Design/modify appropriate individual rehabilitation of post-surgical/post-injury conditions.
