About The Position

The Certified Alcohol and Substance Abuse Counselor or CASAC will provide alcoholism and substance use disorder counseling services for individuals served by the Supportive Crisis Stabilization Center (SCSC). The role will support individuals experiencing mental health and substance use disorders, referred to as co-occurring disorders (COD). The CASAC can assist in assessment of symptoms form clients who may have substance abuse barriers by applying professional judgment to determine appropriate treatment needs and levels of care. The CASAC utilizes Evidence Based Practices as directed by SCSC clinical leadership team. This includes performing diagnostic assessment, evaluation, intervention, referral and alcoholism and/or substance abuse counseling within the scope of their CASAC credentials.

Requirements

  • Associates Degree with valid current CASAC certification required (CASAC-T or Provisional).
  • Completion of OASAS CASAC required 350 hours and CASAC certification attained within 6-months of employment considered.
  • Maintain CASAC credentials, as required by New York State.
  • Must have a valid Driver’s License

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum CASAC credential as Advanced CASAC preferred
  • Experience with Group Facilitation, substance abuse counseling, conducting and testing clients for substance abuse, and collaborative treatment planning preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Promote the individual’s recovery by coordinating, developing and implementing in partnership with the individual, the treatment plan process.
  • Promote involvement of family or other relevant collateral contacts in the recovery process.
  • Provide individual psychotherapy, group therapy, and crisis intervention, within scope of education/certification.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of group work management techniques and use those techniques appropriately.
  • Provide linkage, referral, and case management as clinically indicated.
  • Serve as a member of a Multi-Disciplinary Clinical Team.
  • Respond to and support crisis interventions.
  • Attend individual and group supervision with supervisor.
  • Introduce clients to program goals, objectives, rules and regulations, client's obligations, client's rights and program operation.
  • Provide linkage, referral, and case management as clinically indicated.
  • Provides education and information to the client about alcohol and drug use.
  • Ensure compliance with all pertinent government and agency regulations and operating standards.
