About The Position

Merakey is seeking a Certified Addiction Counselor to join their team in Shelocta, PA, supporting Armstrong and Indiana County. This role is part of an Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) Team, which provides comprehensive services including therapy, medication management, and resource linkage to adult individuals with serious mental illness (SMI). Services are delivered in the individual's home or community, with at least three home visits per week. The position requires the use of personal vehicles for client transportation and community-based work. The ACT Team is composed of various professionals such as psychiatrists, nurses, mental health professionals, substance abuse professionals, employment specialists, housing specialists, and a peer specialist, all collaborating to offer complete services.

Requirements

  • Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CADC) or Certified Advanced Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CAADC) Certification is required
  • 2 to 3 years of experience working with individuals with co-occurring substance abuse/mental health disorders required.
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in human services/related field

Responsibilities

  • Consult with Psychiatrist and Primary Care Physicians on the effects of addiction on mental and physical health and assist in determining the appropriate course of treatment for individuals with co-occurring disorders.
  • Collaborate with the registered nurses in the assessment of an individual's physical health, making appropriate referrals to community physicians for further assessment and treatment, and in coordination of medical, psychiatric, and substance abuse treatment.
  • Provide ongoing support and counseling and education to team members, individuals, and family members to help them become more knowledgeable about substance abuse disorders.
  • Submit written reports and oral testimony and presentation of opinion in commitment and other legal proceedings, as necessary.
  • Attending organizational staff meetings and treatment planning meetings as requested to assess patients and assist with staff training and education, as necessary.
