The Certified Addiction Counselor (CAC)/Assessor is responsible for conducting comprehensive substance use assessments, developing clinical recommendations, and supporting individuals in accessing the appropriate level of care. This position plays a critical role in ensuring timely, accurate, and compliant assessments while collaborating with multidisciplinary team members to facilitate high-quality client care.

Requirements

  • Certified Addiction Counselor (CAC) credential in DC
  • Candidates must maintain all required licenses, certifications, registrations, and continuing education requirements in good standing throughout the duration of their engagement.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Counseling, Psychology, Social Work, Human Services, or a related field
  • Minimum of one-year of experience working with individuals with substance use disorders
  • Experience completing ASAM assessments and treatment recommendations
  • Knowledge of Virginia Medicaid documentation and compliance requirements
  • Experience using Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems including Credible
  • Strong organizational, communication, and time management skills

Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive biopsychosocial and substance use assessments.
  • Complete ASAM assessments and determine the appropriate level of care.
  • Develop individualized treatment recommendations and coordinate referrals.
  • Complete clinical documentation accurately and within established timelines.
  • Maintain compliance with DBHDS, Medicaid, agency, and payer requirements.
  • Collaborate with clinical supervisors, therapists, recovery support staff, and external referral partners.
  • Participate in required supervision, team meetings, and quality improvement activities.
  • Maintain client confidentiality and adhere to HIPAA and all applicable ethical standards.
  • Support agency performance goals related to access, quality, and client engagement.
