About The Position

Provides optimal nutritional care and diabetes self-management education to outpatient pediatrics endocrinology practice by assessing nutritional needs and developing nutritional care plans using the nutrition care process.

Requirements

  • Registered Dietitian (RD) or Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) through the Commission of Dietetic Registration (CDR)
  • Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist (CDCES) through the Certification Board for Diabetes Care and Education
  • Must possess current licensure and registration as required by state board where services will be provided: WV: Licensed Dietitian through the West Virginia Board of Licensed Dietitians
  • Two (2) years’ experience as a Registered Dietitian (RD) or Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) in a hospital, long-term care facility or outpatient setting.
  • Six (6) months experience providing diabetes education, working with children and adolescents.

Responsibilities

  • Interviews, assesses and develops plan for the institutional needs of clinic patients, in collaboration with attending physicians.
  • Counsels individuals, families, etc. on insulin administration, insulin pump settings and diabetes management through individual sessions and group classes.
  • Manages insulin titration per physician orders.
  • Maintains effective written and verbal communications with physicians' offices and school nurses.
  • Documents education and assessment of outpatients in the electronic medical record.
  • Maintains nutrition clinic records and participates in QA activities.
  • Utilizes and develops resources and educational materials for patient education.
  • Develops and maintains Diabetes Education program clinical quality initiatives.
  • Facilitates community education and outreach specific to nutrition and diabetes management.
  • Liaison to pharmaceutical pump and sensor representatives.
  • Educates families on insulin pumps, continuous glucose monitors, and other advances in diabetes.
  • Develops protocols for ongoing education assessments.
  • Triages messages including providing sick day management for diabetes (keeping them out of the ED).
  • Advocates for patients for supplies and school accommodations.
