About The Position

Camp Cherokee is seeking a dynamic and responsible Ceramics Instructor to lead a safe and engaging ceramics and pottery program for campers of various age groups. The instructor will be responsible for program design, staff management, and ensuring a high-quality experience for all participants. This role requires strong leadership, excellent communication skills, and a passion for child development.

Requirements

  • Must be 21 years of age or have completed at least two years of college.
  • Must attend all pre-camp training, retreats, and opening training sessions.
  • Possess leadership qualities and the ability to use sound judgment.
  • Good health, enthusiasm, individual maturity, moral character, team qualities, and communication skills.
  • Possess interest in the development of children.
  • Must be able to endure hot temperatures, physical exertion, manual labor, behavioral conflicts, and must be able to walk, run, and swim every day.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, manage, and supervise a safe and fun ceramics/pottery program for campers.
  • Ensure lesson plans are completed and implemented to deliver high-quality programs.
  • Manage daily program success and evaluate the development of campers’ skills and abilities, considering age differences.
  • Communicate daily ceramics program needs and expectations with staff.
  • Manage class occupancy limits based on equipment and program spacing.
  • Focus on skill development for campers.
  • Ensure campers have the opportunity to take home finished pottery products.
  • Manage the upkeep of all programming facilities, areas, and equipment.
  • Create and manage an inventory of all ceramics programming equipment.
  • Discuss planning and implementation during staff training(s).
  • Ensure campers and staff adhere to safety precautions during programming.
  • Manage program areas and minimize hazards.
  • Conduct daily checks of all program facilities and equipment.
  • Assist other program staff as needed.
  • Identify, maintain, and create an inventory of all program equipment, noting repair needs or new material requirements.
