About The Position

As a Central Utilities Plant (CUP) Operator at JLL, you'll be the backbone of mission-critical operations, ensuring uninterrupted utility services for facilities that never sleep. In this role, you'll operate, monitor, and maintain sophisticated central plant systems—including chillers, boilers, cooling towers, and building automation systems—that power essential operations around the clock. Your technical expertise and proactive approach will directly impact operational reliability, energy efficiency, and client satisfaction. Requirements

  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in utility plant operation and maintenance including utilization of building automation systems (BAS).
  • Experience must specifically involve operation and maintenance of centrifugal chillers (minimum 500 tons of cooling capacity) and hot water boilers (minimum 100 horsepower).
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience involving computer-room air conditioners, air handlers, and associated equipment is required.
  • Must have a Black Seal license.
  • Must complete the Johnson Controls/York YK High Pressure Centrifugal Operations/Maintenance Course #2102 within 180 days after start of full performance.
  • Must be on a rotating shift to ensure continuity of operation by working/training with the CUP supervisor on various scenarios and situations.
  • This position does not provide visa sponsorship. Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and operate central plant equipment including chillers, boilers, cooling towers, pumps, and associated mechanical systems to maintain optimal performance and ensure continuous service delivery across all connected facilities.
  • Conduct regular facility rounds and inspections to identify potential issues, document equipment performance, verify system parameters against setpoints, and perform preventive maintenance tasks according to established schedules.
  • Respond immediately to equipment alarms, system failures, and emergency situations by troubleshooting problems, implementing corrective actions, and coordinating with maintenance teams to minimize downtime and restore normal operations.
  • Maintain accurate logs and documentation of equipment operations, energy consumption, system performance metrics, maintenance activities, and incident reports using computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS).
  • Adjust system operations based on building demand, weather conditions, and occupancy patterns to optimize energy efficiency while maintaining environmental conditions within specified parameters.
  • Communicate effectively with facility managers, maintenance personnel, and client representatives regarding system status, operational issues, and scheduled maintenance activities to ensure seamless coordination.
  • Participate in rotating shift schedules including nights, weekends, and holidays to provide 24/7 coverage, responding to after-hours emergencies and maintaining continuous monitoring of critical systems.
