About The Position

RiverView Health, a community-owned, membership-based non-profit organization established in 1898, operates a 25-bed Critical Access Hospital in Crookston, MN. The organization also includes RiverView Recovery Center, RiverView Home Care, and five primary care and specialty clinics. This is a full-time position for a Central Sterilization Technician, responsible for the decontamination, preparation, sterilization, and distribution of surgical instruments and medical equipment, adhering to strict infection control and safety practices.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED
  • Current American Heart BLS certification. If not, current training will be provided and certification must be obtained within 4 months from date of hire.

Nice To Haves

  • 1+ year Sterilization Technologist experience
  • Certification (CRCST)
  • 1+ year of Surgery or OR exposure

Responsibilities

  • Operates all required equipment and machinery accurately and safely.
  • Prepares, assembles, and sterilizes instruments and supplies according to sterilization parameters in accordance with The Department of Health, TJC, OSHA, CDC, AAMI and AORN standards.
  • Maintains appropriate records, and monitors quality control and infection control standards.
  • Provides asset management and support of surgical instruments and trays belonging to or consigned to the facility.
  • Correctly peel-packs supplies/instruments, wraps instruments for sterilization, and inspects each instrument for use, function, completeness and cleanliness.
  • Promotes individual professional growth and development by meeting requirements for mandatory/continuing education and skills competency.
  • Supports department-based goals which contribute to the success of the organization.
  • Communicates with operating room staff to provide required instruments.
  • Reports damaged or malfunctioning equipment to CSR Coordinator or Director of Surgical Services for replacement.
  • Serves as a resource to nursing staff in all departments regarding responsibilities of proper sterilization techniques.
  • Cleans, sets up, sterilizes, and distributes instruments as scheduled on each shift.
  • Complies with all regulatory requirements, including Joint Commission Standards.
  • Adheres to Standard Precautions as appropriate, which may include the use of protective barriers, handling and disposing of infectious waste appropriately, and hand washing as appropriate.
