About The Position

Join our Central Sterile Processing team as a Central Supply Technician I. In this vital role, you are the backbone of hospital safety. Working behind the scenes, you will ensure our surgical and medical teams have the perfectly sterilized, safe instruments they need to save lives every day. This role teaches you the inner workings of hospital operations and surgical tools, serving as an exceptional stepping stone into surgical technology, nursing, or healthcare leadership.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent required.
  • No healthcare experience required! Prior experience in fast-paced retail, warehousing, manufacturing, assembly lines, or hospitality translates perfectly to this high-detail environment.
  • Must obtain a professional technician certification (CRCST through HSPA/IAHCSMM or CSPDT through CBSPD) within 12 months of hire (hospital provides training support).
  • Exceptional attention to detail, strong team collaboration, computer literacy for equipment tracking, and resilience when working in a fast-paced clinical environment.

Responsibilities

  • Safely collect used, soiled instruments and medical equipment from the operating rooms and ancillary departments.
  • Wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to clean, disinfect, and process instruments utilizing manual techniques, washers, and ultrasonic machines.
  • Learn and apply strict infection control standards and "Instructions for Use" (IFU) data to ensure safe instrument handling.
  • Carefully inspect instruments for cleanliness and proper structural functionality.
  • Use specialized tracking software and inventory count sheets to assemble and wrap precise instrument trays for surgical procedures.
  • Apply chemical indicators and sterility seals to guarantee quality control.
  • Operate high-tech sterilizers, selecting the exact appropriate cycles for various types of medical equipment.
  • Conduct and document mandatory daily chemical and biological testing on sterilization equipment to maintain flawless quality logs.
  • Troubleshoot equipment variations and report system anomalies immediately to leadership.
  • Stock clean and sterile surgical supplies across Glens Falls Hospital units and restock emergency code carts.
  • Execute high-level disinfection and precise irrigation workflows for specialized medical scopes, maintaining meticulous logging records.
