The certified registered central service technician works under the supervision of the Director of Surgery. The certified central service technician is a member of the surgical team, is responsible for cleaning, decontaminating, sterilizing, assembling, and distributing medical devices and surgical instruments to prevent patient infection. The certified registered central service technician works in the surgical sterile processing department, operating autoclaves, inspecting instruments for damage, and maintaining strict quality control records to meet infection control standards. Responsible for the delivery of safe, effective, organized, and quality centered care of all instrumentation in the surgery department, other areas of perioperative services, and for all departments and areas served in the clinics and hospital.
