About The Position

UPMC Muncy has a Part-Time Sterile Processing Technician opening in our Surgical Services! Hours: Part-Time 20 hours per week. Shift: Monday thru Friday; Varying start times depending on case load include 9am-5:30pm or 10am-6:30pm. No weekend or Holidays required. Sign-On Bonus: Earn up to $2,500 when you start strong with us! Final candidates will be selected for a job title within the career ladder that reflects level of education, experience, and manager discretion at time of offer.

Requirements

High school Graduate/GED
1 year of experience with UPMC
Six months of healthcare experience required
Must be able to stand for all shift hours and be able to pick up, push, pull etc. 35 pounds.
Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution or Certified Registered Central Service Technician with Healthcare Sterile Processing Association
Act 34
Current licensure either in the state where the facility is located or, if the facility is in a state covered by the multistate Nursing Licensure Compact (NLC) agreement, a multistate license issued by a participating NLC state. Hires and current employees working on an out-of-state NLC license who later change their residency to the state where the facility is also located will have 60 days upon changing their residency to apply for licensure within that state.

Nice To Haves

Currently enrolled in an Accredited Surgical Technician/Sterile Processing Program Preferred.
If grandfathered as a technician who does not hold certification, must complete 10 hours of continuing education to remain qualified as a Central Sterile Technician on an annual basis.
Certified staff are required to complete 10-12 hours of continuing education as a condition of maintaining certification, as determined by the certifying body.
Staff pending certification within 18 months of hire are not required to complete continuing education until certified.

Responsibilities

Performs those duties necessary for the proper decontamination, cleaning, inspection, assembly, packaging, sterilization, storage, distribution and documentation of reusable surgical instrumentation and equipment according to established procedures.
Prepares and assembles surgical tray and equipment following established tray listings for issue, storage, or further processing.
Conforms and adheres to department policies concerning decontamination, sterile processing, infection control and safety.
Maintains a working knowledge of, and is able to effectively troubleshoot, all decontamination/sterilization equipment.
Performs other related duties as assigned by authorized personnel or as may be required to meet emergency situations.
Demonstrates knowledge of performance improvement tools and techniques. Shares learning from improvements with other units and/or spreads across the business unit or system.
