About The Position

UPMC Harrisburg Surgical Services is seeking a Central Scheduler to support scheduling surgeries for 12 sites in the Central PA region. This role will also provide support to the data auditing team. Previous surgery scheduling experience is preferred.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Two years' experience working in a physician's office or medical field required.
  • Associates degree required in lieu of experience.
  • Act 34

Nice To Haves

  • Previous surgery scheduling experience preferred.
  • Experience in a telephone communication center preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assists office scheduler in scheduling cases within the allocated block time in the operating room.
  • Manage block releasing for block order.
  • Coordinate with office scheduler to confirm cases.
  • Direct contact with operating staff and anesthesia regarding case volume and resources.
  • Enters Surgical Services charges and case data into the surgical services documentation system in an accurate, complete and timely manner.
  • Communicates with Surgical Services management concerning missing, incomplete or late charge documentation.
  • Reviews nursing documentation to ensure accurate data is captured.
  • Contacts service line coordinators or operating room managers with discrepancies.
  • Enters surgical charges and case data into the surgical services documentation system accurately and completely.
  • Audits charts and makes adjustments per patient or insurance requests through patient accounts and customer service departments.
  • Actively practice behaviors associated with Service Excellence expectations.
