The Central Scheduler is responsible for accurately performing the pre-access functions required to schedule patients, which includes scheduling outpatient diagnostic procedures and completing the pre-registration and insurance verification processes. Always demonstrates Service Excellence. Must possess excellent written and oral communication skills, as well as organizational skills. Accurately schedules patients in accordance with guidelines in the scheduling application for assigned outpatient procedures and in accordance with ancillary department specifications, including but not limited to adding and deleting procedures and rescheduling appointments. Guides the physician, physician office staff, and/or the patient through the scheduling process. Confirms appointments by contacting physicians and/or patient as needed. Obtains insurance information to expedite the verification/authorization/pre-certification process. Enters complete and accurate data into computer with emphasis placed on correct date, codes, and spelling. Thoroughly completes the outpatient verification process to ensure the accuracy of insurance information and that authorization requirements have been met for all scheduled patients prior to receiving services. Reviews previous account history and consults with Supervisor when considering possible delay of services during Pre-Access processes. Other duties as assigned
