The Central plant operator is responsible for monitoring, operating, and maintaining the equipment within a central utility plant, which typically includes boilers, chillers, cooling towers, pumps, and other HVAC systems, ensuring efficient and safe heating and cooling distribution throughout a building or campus by regulating temperatures, pressures, and flow rates, often requiring routine maintenance checks, troubleshooting issues, and responding to emergencies; essentially acting as the primary caretaker of a facility's central energy production system.
