About The Position

The Central Maintenance Planner is responsible for ensuring effective planning to optimize plant and equipment availability. This role involves managing maintenance strategies, work practices, critical spares, and business continuity. The planner will maintain the accuracy and functionality of the maintenance database, report job progress and potential delays to the Maintenance Superintendent, and identify and resolve challenges that could cause production delays. They will also facilitate maintenance projects, work collaboratively with teams, and ensure accurate communication during shift changes. Additionally, the planner will develop and implement short, medium, and long-term maintenance plans and shutdown schedules, coordinate equipment repairs with the Mill Foreman, raise purchase and work orders, manage critical spares, and ensure all planned maintenance is recorded and closed out correctly in the maintenance management system.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure safe work systems/procedures are always practised and adhered to.

  • Understand and familiarise oneself with site Emergency evacuation procedures.

  • Assist the Maintenance Superintendent in directing the day to day operations of the maintenance team.
  • Deputize for the Maintenance Superintendent in their absence.
  • Coach, mentor, assess and monitor the work performance of the Maintenance team members and provide feedback.
  • Provide effective planning that optimises plant and equipment availability at all times.
  • Source information required to deliver maintenance planning and project management.
  • Proactively and continuously improve maintenance strategies, work practices and critical spares and business continuity.
  • Ensure continuity, accuracy and functionality of the maintenance database and all data is adequately maintained.
  • Update the Maintenance Superintendent of all job progress and any anticipated delays.
  • Identify and report all challenges or issues that may cause production delays and participate in problem solving strategies.
  • Facilitate maintenance projects as required.
  • Work collaboratively with others to achieve organizational goals.
  • Leverage off and use the talent and knowledge within the team to resolve problems.
  • Communicate relevant information and data to other personnel through formalised shift changes and use data reporting systems.
  • Attend and actively participate in shift change meetings and provide accurate handover notes/information.
  • Participate in and utilise the change management process for identified problems and opportunities.
  • Champion the training and mentoring in the use of the maintenance database.
  • Prioritise and complete tasks accurately as to specifications as assigned and within required timeframes.
  • Develop and implement robust short, medium and long term maintenance plans and shutdown schedules.
  • Ensure all planning outputs are cohesive, achievable, resourced and easily understood by all parties.
  • Liaise with the Mill Foreman to coordinate equipment repairs and planned shutdowns.
  • Raise purchase and work orders as necessary.
  • Ensure the critical spares list is updated. New equipment spares are sourced, ANSI store stock items and monitor and review stock holdings as required.
  • Ensure all planned maintenance and work orders are recorded and closed out correctly within the required timeframe in the maintenance management system.
  • Be punctual to work and all required site meetings.
  • Undertake other duties as lawfully instructed.
