About The Position

This individual is responsible for supervising, planning and controlling all lab operations and personnel in the General Laboratory section of the Core Laboratory, which includes Chemistry, Hematology, Immunology and RIA technical disciplines. As well, responsible for Technical Supervision (technical and scientific oversight) for these specialty areas. The central supervisor is accessible to the laboratories at all times, either on site or by telephone. Advanced technical knowledge in the field supervised is required. Ability to work with front line staff in troubleshooting instrument problems as they occur. Technically competent in the quality control program, proficiency testing and process improvement program of the areas of testing. Responsible for regulatory compliance of the testing overseen. Competency of staff supervised for testing is part of the responsibility for this position, which may include corrective action if necessary. This individual shall maintain a healing environment for employees and patients with a spirit of caring and concern as incorporated in the philosophy of our mission and values.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a chemical, physical, biological or clinical laboratory science, or medical technology from an accredited institution and one year of laboratory training or experience, or both, in high complexity testing.
  • Associate's degree in a laboratory science, or medical laboratory technology from an accredited institution or equivalent education and training, and at least 2 years of laboratory training or experience, or both, in high complexity testing.
  • Previously qualified as a general supervisor under section 493.1462 on or before February 28, 1992.
  • Served as a general supervisor of high complexity testing on or before September 1, 1992 and met the requirements defined by CLIA 493.1461(4) as of April 24, 1995.
  • Qualified as a technician with a high school diploma and successful completion of a HHS or approved military clinical lab training program, plus 2 additional years of lab training or experience, or both, in high complexity testing, either before or after completing the training program.
  • Served as a general supervisor of high complexity testing on or before September 1, 1992 and met the requirements defined by CLIA 493.1461 (5).
  • Qualified as a technician with a high school diploma and serving as technical supervisor for high complexity testing on or before 9/1/02, with 10 years of lab training or experience, or both, in high complexity testing, including at least 6 years of supervisory experience between 9/1/82 and 9/1/92.
  • Qualified as a general supervisor before February 28, 1992 under CLIA 493.1462.
  • Successfully achieved a satisfactory grade in a proficiency examination approved by the HHS (HEW exam).
  • Training and relevant experience in high complexity testing of Immunology, Chemistry, Hematology, and Microbiology.
  • At least four (4) years relevant experience in a high complexity laboratory setting.
  • For supervising technical operations of the transfusion service: education or experience equivalent to an MT (ASCP) and at least 4 years experience, one of which is in transfusion medicine, under a qualified laboratory director.
