Inspects, operates, maintains, tests and repairs boilers, cooling towers and associated control and distribution equipment. Performs maintenance and repair on Central Energy Plant associated equipment to include, medical air and vacuum, electric and diesel air compressors, diesel and natural gas fuel systems, water softeners, pumps, motors, chillers, boilers. The role involves performing operations and maintenance on rotating machinery according to manufacturer recommendations, local, state, and federal regulations. The mechanic observes and interprets readings on gauges and meters for boiler and chiller operations, adjusts controls for safe and efficient plant operations to meet utility demands, and must be knowledgeable of required actions in the event of service loss. Responsibilities also include water treatment for boilers and cooling towers, analyzing water for acidity, conductivity, hardness, and alkalinity, and maintaining the cleanliness and appearance of work areas. The mechanic will also assist other maintenance team members with assigned duties.
