About The Position

The Center Medical Specialist works in a plasma donation center and assesses donor suitability, supports donor safety and education, and responds to donor injuries and adverse events. The role also assists with employee training and administers the employee Hepatitis Vaccine program. The position may be filled by a currently certified or licensed Registered Nurse, Licensed Practical Nurse, Licensed Vocational Nurse, Paramedic, or EMT (Basic or Advanced), in accordance with state requirements. Salary is based on licensure and experience.

Requirements

Be educated and currently certified or licensed in the state of employment and according to state requirements as a Registered Nurse, Licensed Practical Nurse, Licensed Vocational Nurse, Paramedic, or EMT (Basic or Advanced).
Hold current CPR certification.
Communicate information and ideas clearly and understand spoken information.
Work independently and follow oral or written instructions.
Adapt to a wide range of tasks and changing conditions.
Relate sensitive information to diverse groups.
Meet the described physical and sensory requirements, including standing and sitting, frequent hand and foot movement, occasional bending or twisting, lifting up to 50 pounds, and required hearing and vision capabilities.

Responsibilities

Perform physical examinations and establish medical histories to determine donor suitability.
Build rapport with donors to support overall customer satisfaction.
Maintain donor and staff confidentiality.
Inform donors about potential hazards.
Provide donor education regarding general health and counseling about unacceptable test results.
Evaluate and manage donor injuries and adverse events.
Evaluate histories of illness or medication use to ensure continued donor suitability.
Assist in employee training.
Administer the employee Hepatitis Vaccine program.
