About the Division: Seattle Parks and Facilities Maintenance Division performs maintenance at over 25 miles of boulevards, 465 parks, including 26 community centers, 8 indoor swimming pools, 2 outdoor (summer) swimming pools, 4 environmental education centers, 2 small-craft centers, 4 golf courses, and an outdoor stadium. We place strong emphasis on providing excellent customer service to the public, clients, and staff to ensure public safety and enjoyment while they are at SPR facilities and parks. Seattle Parks & Recreation Facilities Maintenance Division is seeking a Cement Finisher - Parks Facilities to join our team. This position plays an essential role in constructing, repairing, and maintaining the concrete infrastructure that supports parks and recreation facilities throughout Seattle. This position requires you to have the skills and a working knowledge of the methods, materials, and tools used in concrete placement and finishing. Employees are required to read, interpret, and work from blueprints, plans, specifications as well as written instructions to complete work within assigned guidelines and applicable building codes. This position works independently on assigned projects while coordinating with other skilled trades. We are currently recruiting for one (1) regular, benefited position on the Day Shift between the hours of 6:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., on a 4-day, 10-hour shift.

Requirements

  • One year of experience as a cement finisher or one year related experience in concrete construction, installation and repair.(Combinations of education, training and experience will be evaluated on an individual basis for comparability).
  • Current Washington State driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with asphalt paving repair; tile setting and repair; epoxy coating and injection; concrete roof system repair; concrete swimming raft and dock repair
  • Experience pre-casting concrete products including: benches, bollards, and tilt up buildings
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and effectively prioritize and schedule maintenance tasks, aligning them with departmental needs.
  • Experience repairing swimming pool plaster, tiles, and concrete pool decks
  • Experience core drilling and cutting concrete.
  • Experience constructing and repairing tennis and basketball courts including small repairs to sport court systems.
  • Working knowledge of the construction and repair of concrete stairs including framework and rebar tying
  • Experience installing and repairing concrete or interlocking pave systems, including preparing bases, establishing grade, and producing durable high-quality finished surfaces.
  • Be highly motivated and able to work as a team member in a demanding work environment, meeting tight deadlines.
  • Experience performing masonry work, including constructing and repairing brick and CMU block structures.
  • Basic computer skills, including the ability to use standard office software and work order/asset management systems for tasks such as record-keeping, reporting, and communication.
  • Proven ability to read and interpret ADA regulations
  • Strong labor and material estimating skills
  • Ability to work with community members and artists on special projects
  • Extensive experience using grade setting equipment such as lasers, smart levels, and grade rods
  • Competence in maintaining clear and comprehensive written records.
  • Effective communication skills to coordinate maintenance activities, convey operational needs, concerns, and procedures.
  • Exhibit a high level of proficiency in verbal communication to convey information effectively and professionally.
  • Experience in interacting with the public coupled with a high level of proficiency in customer service.
  • Experience maintaining multiple municipal or large commercial facilities.

Responsibilities

  • Perform journey-level cement finishing in all aspects of the trade
  • Break out, remove, and replace damaged or deteriorated concrete for repair and restoration projects.
  • Prepare subgrade for concrete, establish lines and grades, and perform rough and final grading
  • Build forms/place reinforced steel/concrete for repairs to foundations, retaining walls, stairs, sidewalks, driveways and curbs, etc.
  • Install, set, and repair concrete and interlocking pavers for sidewalks, plazas, pathways, and other hardscape features.
  • Construct, repair, and restore brick, CMU block, retaining walls, and other masonry structures in accordance with project specifications.
  • Perform core drilling and concrete cutting to install or modify facility infrastructure.
  • Use the Asset Management Work Order system to update and close work orders, document completed work, and track maintenance activities.
  • Coordinate work activities with skilled trades and other Parks staff to complete projects efficiently.
  • Maintain accurate records of work performed, materials used and completed projects.
  • Construction of wood forms including measuring, laying out, cutting, and jointing
  • Trowel, finish, edge, and mark new concrete including exposed aggregate, broom, and hard trowel finishes
  • Repair basketball and tennis courts, swimming pool plaster, tiles, and concrete pool decks
  • Set up traffic and pedestrian control while working in a public setting
  • Read and interpret blueprints, plans, and specifications
  • Estimate and order materials
  • Mix and place dry bags of cement in difficult to access job sites
  • Performs other related duties of a comparable level/type.
