About The Position

This role involves supporting manufacturing operations, specifically within a finishing cell. The technician will be responsible for various tasks related to part preparation, painting, inspection, and documentation, with increasing responsibilities at higher levels (Level 1, Level 2, and Level 3). The position requires adherence to safety and quality standards, utilization of ERP systems, and effective communication within the team. There are distinct requirements and duties for each level, culminating in advanced responsibilities such as quality investigations, process development, and spray equipment maintenance at Level 3.

Requirements

  • Previous experience with paint application desired (Level 1).
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Customer service skills; able to relate well to all internal and external customers.
  • Must have a high level of attention to detail.
  • Two plus years’ experience in aerospace finishing (Level 2).
  • Ability to independently mix and apply aerospace primers (Level 2).
  • Ability to independently operate painting equipment (Level 2).
  • Experience with aerospace finishing specifications (i.e., BAC specifications) (Level 2).
  • Five plus years’ experience in aerospace finishing (Level 3).
  • Ability to independently mix and apply all primers and topcoats (Level 3).
  • Detailed knowledge and understanding of aerospace finishing specifications (Level 3).
  • Detailed knowledge and understanding of PSCA requirements for the paint booth, as well as fire and safety requirements (Level 3).
  • Experience developing tooling and production processes (Level 3).
  • Frequent use of computer.
  • Frequent use of hands and fingers to reach, manipulate, handle, and hold material.
  • Frequent use of vision abilities including close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and spatial relationship.
  • Frequent use of hearing ability to receive detailed information through oral communication.
  • Frequent use of speaking ability to express or exchange ideas, communicate detailed information, or convey instructions.
  • Frequent lifting of 5 or 10 pounds, with occasional lifting to 35 pounds.
  • Frequent exposure to chemicals, solvents, paints, etc.
  • Consistent exposure to manufacturing shop floor, requiring use of Safety Glasses.
  • Consistent exposure to excess noise levels, occasionally requiring the use of Hearing Protection.
  • Must be a US Person (US citizen, lawful permanent resident, or admitted as a refugee or asylee) due to ITAR regulations.
  • Must pass pre-employment drug screen (including marijuana and cannabis metabolites).
  • Must pass background screening.

Responsibilities

  • Verify part counts against work order.
  • Identify defects in workmanship regarding finishes, physical damage, and part identification.
  • Meet Orion safety and quality system requirements.
  • Maintain 6S and Lean manufacturing best practices.
  • Utilize ERP system (Epicor and Paylocity) to document work movement.
  • Process work within performance and delivery requirements.
  • Meet established productivity standards.
  • Follow communicated job priority instructions.
  • Communicate production delays and problems to appropriate supervision.
  • Support all members of the Manufacturing and Orion team fully.
  • Participate in team and company meetings.
  • Model proper work ethics, behaviors, hygiene, and dress.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment.
  • Read and understand work order/Job Traveler.
  • Layout parts for painting and identify appropriately.
  • Maintain flow of department including monitoring jobs to come out of oven when cure is complete.
  • Separate, identify, and move jobs to appropriate job work queues after prep is completed.
  • Instruct and mentor Program Participants (Level 2+).
  • Provide immediate feedback to Program Participants on critical performance (Level 2+).
  • Restock supplies to meet min/max quantities (Level 2+).
  • Understand current flow of production parts and how to group and separate accordingly (Level 2+).
  • Know proper setup of production layout and correct preparation of production parts per specifications including taping parts for paint layout (Level 2+).
  • Verify parts meet the proper specifications including thickness, appearance, and overall quality using the appropriate tools including a Permascope that has been calibrated using specific shims (Level 2+).
  • Maintain inspection authority to buy off part identification operation on the work orders (Level 3).
  • Participate in safety and quality investigations and recommends corrective action (Level 3).
  • Ensure all Finish Cell testing within the Paint Cell is completed with a passing score (Level 3).
  • Understand proper documentation and ability to complete work instructions as needed to meet the proper customer specifications (Level 3).
  • Maintain inventory and shelf life of supplies by periodic inventory counts and completes purchase requisitions to meet demand (Level 3).
  • Navigate and understand customer specifications and work instructions (Level 3).
  • Possess knowledge of spray equipment; perform maintenance and rebuilding as necessary (Level 3).
  • Mix touch up paint kits, maintaining proper identification and labeling (Level 3).
