About The Position

Tend to one or more machine tools, special-purpose machines, or industrial robots to machine metal work pieces to specifications on a production basis. This role involves reading blueprints, setting up and operating numerical control machines, and ensuring parts meet specifications and production standards.

Requirements

  • Ability to read blueprint or job order for product specifications, dimensions, and tolerances.
  • Ability to read tooling instructions, such as fixtures, feed rates, cutting speeds, and depth of cut.
  • Ability to determine sequence of operations.
  • Ability to select, position, and secure tool in tool holder (chuck, collet, or tool post).
  • Ability to identify and separate nonconforming parts.
  • Ability to seal parts with rust preventative, as required.
  • Ability to produce parts at a rate which meets or exceeds accepted production standards.
  • Ability to set up and operate numerical control machine to cut, shape, or form metal workpieces to specifications.
  • Ability to review setup sheet and specifications to determine setup procedure, machining sequence, and dimensions of finished work piece.
  • Ability to lift work piece manually, or using hoist, and secure work piece in fixture or load automatic feeding device.
  • Ability to load control media, such as disk, tape, or punch card, in machine control console, or enter commands to retrieve preprogrammed machine instructions from database.
  • Ability to manipulate controls and enter commands to index cutting tool to specified set point and to start the machine.

Responsibilities

  • Tend to one or more machine tools, special-purpose machines, or industrial robots to machine metal work pieces to specifications on production basis.
  • Read blueprint or job order for product specifications, such as, dimensions and tolerances, and tooling instructions, such as fixtures, feed rates, cutting speeds, depth of cut, and determine sequence of operations.
  • Select, position, and secure tool in tool holder (chuck, collet, or tool post).
  • Identify (including nonconforming dimensions) and separate all nonconforming parts.
  • Seal parts with rust preventative, as required.
  • Produce parts at a rate which meets or exceeds accepted production standards.
  • Set up and operate numerical control machine to cut, shape, or form metal workpieces to specifications.
  • Review setup sheet and specifications to determine setup procedure, machining sequence, and dimensions of finished work piece.
  • Lift work piece manually, or using hoist, and secure work piece in fixture or load automatic feeding device.
  • Load control media, such as disk, tape, or punch card, in machine control console, or enter commands to retrieve preprogrammed machine instructions from database.
  • Manipulate controls and enter commands to index cutting tool to specified set point and to start the machine.
