Cell Culture Engineering Co-Op

Johnson & JohnsonMalvern, PA
Onsite

About The Position

Johnson & Johnson R&D focuses on the development of advanced materials and manufacturing processes, risk management, and analytical testing throughout the development lifecycle and across all sectors, including Pharmaceutical and Medical Device. We operate in a dynamic, cross-functional, and technologically innovative environment, and are dedicated to fostering engineering and scientific talent. The R&D Co-Op program offers students practical, hands-on experience, along with coaching, mentoring, and networking opportunities. Participants will have the chance to connect with peers from diverse educational backgrounds across the country. Each Co-Op will be assigned to a specific function and project for the duration of a six-month term, typically from October 2026 to April 2027.

Requirements

  • Completion of Undergraduate Freshman year at an accredited University is required.
  • Currently pursuing a Master's or PhD degree in Chemical Engineering, Biological Engineering, Pharmaceutical Sciences, or related fields.
  • Have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher, which is reflective of all college coursework.
  • Coursework and/or working knowledge of cell culture processes.
  • Hands-on experience in process modeling and simulation.
  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills.
  • Basic laboratory skills and experience in research, experimental design & execution, and data analysis.

Nice To Haves

  • Hands-on experience in cell culture processes.
  • Hands-on experience with scale up/down methodologies.
  • Permanently authorized to work in the U.S., must not require sponsorship of an employment visa (e.g., H-1B or green card) at the time of application or in the future.
  • Students currently on CPT, OPT, or STEM OPT usually requires future sponsorship for long term employment and do not meet the requirements for this program unless eligible for an alternative long-term status that does not require company sponsorship.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the End-to-End Upstream Process Development and Automation teams, contributing to the development of bioreactor Reduced Scale Models (RSM).
  • Leverage knowledge of scientific and engineering principles to collect and collate diverse experimental data sets across several bioreactor scales (e.g., 250mL, 5L, 500L, 2kL).
  • Perform data transformation (e.g., via means of mass balance and kinetic modeling).
  • Perform advanced data analytics (e.g., usage of Buckingham Pi theorem, Statistical Design of Experiments, Multivariate Data Analysis and time-series analysis).
  • Apply an iterative and adaptive learning approach for experimental design and execution (e.g., model-based or model discriminate Design of Experiments).
