About The Position

Gresham Smith is seeking a CEI Inspector to join their Transportation Market team. This role involves observing and inspecting construction work, ensuring alignment with specifications and contract documents, and maintaining daily logs. The inspector will coordinate with various stakeholders, advise contractors on compliance, and verify work zone safety. This position contributes to creating healthy and thriving communities by ensuring the quality of essential infrastructure projects.

Requirements

A high school diploma (GED) and 1 year of construction experience, or completion of a 4-year engineering technology or engineering program
Ability to read and understand plans and specifications
Ability to recognize, document, and escalate field issues
Competence in computer use for data entry and reporting
Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work independently
Effective listening and communication skills, both verbal and written, including good English language knowledge, grammar, composition, and spelling
Physical ability to frequently sit, use hands to operate tools or equipment, talk, see, hear, reach with hands and arms, walk, stand, and stoop; frequently lift or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally more—reasonable accommodations may be made to support individuals with disabilities

Nice To Haves

Experience on GDOT or municipal roadway projects requiring daily records and reports on asphalt paving, concrete work, grading, structural work, and erosion control
Certifications such as GDOT WECS, GDOT Field Concrete Technician, and GSWCC Level 1a (Erosion Control)
May be required to participate in certification and training courses post-hire including OSHA, GDOT, or client-specific required training

Responsibilities

Observe and inspect construction work and prepare daily inspection reports and constructability reviews
Oversee daily construction activities including earthwork, erosion control, reinforced concrete, and equipment installation
Ensure construction progress aligns with specifications and contract documents by reviewing plans and analyzing moderate complexity shop drawings
Maintain daily job logs and report deviations from plans to management promptly
Participate in reviewing submittments, assisting with Requests for Information (RFIs), and other related tasks
Coordinate with contractors, client personnel, and other stakeholders regarding inspection activities
Advise contractors on non-compliance or contract violations and collaborate on corrective actions
Verify that highway work zones and traffic control setups meet contract requirements
Assist in contractor evaluations and perform other duties as assigned
Use or learn necessary inspection tools and computer systems for accurate data collection and reporting
