About The Position

We’re seeking a CEI Inspector Aid who will provide Construction, Engineering, and Inspection (CEI) services for transportation projects located in the state of Georgia. This is entry level inspector work supporting higher level inspectors and engineers on assignments relating to highway and bridge construction inspection. Work is generally performed under technical and administrative supervision and may include other duties and responsibilities as assigned. This is a long-term, full-time, on-site position located in Waycross, GA and other areas served by GDOT District 5.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • General knowledge of mathematical functions.
  • Skill in the use of office equipment such as calculators.
  • Ability to learn and interpret such things as construction plans, contract provisions, and inspection procedures.
  • Must be licensed to operate motor vehicles in accordance with Georgia Law.
  • Proficiency with computers (e.g., Microsoft Office 365, Microsoft Outlook, internet, etc.).
  • GDOT WECS.
  • GDOT Field Concrete Technician Certification.
  • GSWCC Level 1a (Erosion Control).
  • Passing scores on GDOT’s Construction Engineering Inspection Training tests – Group 1 (General Provisions, Auxiliary Items, Basic Highway Math, Basic Highway Plan Reading).
  • Certifications from other agencies or states may possibly be substituted.
  • Certifications must be obtained within six (6) months of beginning work on the GDOT project.

Responsibilities

  • Perform a range of routine and standardized work including, but not limited to, manual and/or electronic calculations, computations, and inspections of construction processes and materials to assure compliance with the construction contract.
  • Inspect truck load tickets for roadway aggregate base course; borrow material and asphaltic concrete at project field sites.
  • Perform a variety of simple materials sampling, inspection and/or testing.
  • Perform contract administrative duties, which may include field measurements of pay item quantities, project close-out, as well as other Department required documentation.
  • May be required to use number of different pieces of equipment such as Slump Cone, Air Meter, Measuring Wheel/Tape, Thermometer, etc.
  • Incumbents will be fully trained in the use of equipment necessary to accomplish their work.
  • May be required to work at remote sites around construction equipment, drilling rigs, explosives and environment contamination.
