As a CEI Inspector, you will observe and inspect construction work and prepare daily inspection reports and constructability reviews. You will oversee daily construction activities including earthwork, erosion control, reinforced concrete, and equipment installation. You will ensure construction progress aligns with specifications and contract documents by reviewing plans and analyzing moderate complexity shop drawings. You will maintain daily job logs and report deviations from plans to management promptly. You will participate in reviewing submittments, assisting with Requests for Information (RFIs), and other related tasks. You will coordinate with contractors, client personnel, and other stakeholders regarding inspection activities. You will advise contractors on non-compliance or contract violations and collaborate on corrective actions. You will verify that highway work zones and traffic control setups meet contract requirements. You will assist in contractor evaluations and perform other duties as assigned. You will use or learn necessary inspection tools and computer systems for accurate data collection and reporting. Requirements

A high school diploma (GED) and a minimum of 2 years of construction or inspection experience on roadway projects, or completion of a 2- or 4-year engineering technology or engineering program
Familiarity with construction techniques, design principles, TDOT specifications, and documents
Ability or willingness to learn the use of tools and equipment such as air meters, slump cones, transit levels, and tape measures
Competence in computer use for data entry and reporting
Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work independently
Effective listening and communication skills, both verbal and written, including good English language knowledge, grammar, composition, and spelling
Physical ability to frequently sit, use hands to operate tools or equipment, talk, see, hear, reach with hands and arms, walk, stand, and stoop; frequently lift or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally more—reasonable accommodations may be made to support individuals with disabilities
Genuine curiosity, creativity, and a collaborative spirit

Nice To Haves

Experience on TDOT or municipal roadway projects requiring daily records and reports on asphalt paving, concrete work, grading, structural work, and erosion control
Licenses/registrations/certifications such as TDOT CEI certifications
Strongly preferred completion of Level 1, and preferably Level 2, of the state’s Erosion Prevention and Sediment Control (EPSC) Training Program
