CEI Inspector I
About The Position
We’re seeking CEI Inspector I professionals professionals who will provide Construction, Engineering, and Inspection (CEI) services for transportation projects located in in the areas of Sandy Springs, Roswell, Johns Creek, Mableton, Alpharetta, Marietta, and Smyrna (Cobb and North Fulton counties), Georgia. This position may support higher level inspectors and engineers on assignments relating to highway and bridge construction inspection. Work is generally performed under technical and administrative supervision and may include other duties and responsibilities as assigned. This post is for future roles and not for a specific opportunity that is available right now. We accept applications and conduct interviews in advance of upcoming hiring needs. This post targets various counties in the state of Georgia. Training materials will be provided to obtain the required certifications.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED.
- 1.5+ years’ experience working as a CEI Inspector.
- Considerable knowledge of materials, methods, and equipment used in highway construction.
- Considerable knowledge of mathematical functions, including geometry.
- Skill in the use of office equipment such as calculators and computers.
- Ability to read, interpret, and explain such things as construction plans, contract provisions, specifications, and inspection procedures.
- Ability to take notes and prepare or review reports.
- Ability to instruct other employees in proper work methods.
- Must be licensed to operate motor vehicles in accordance with Georgia Law.
- Proficiency with computers (e.g., Microsoft Office 365, Microsoft Outlook, internet, etc.).

- Passing scores on GDOT’s Construction Engineering Inspection Training tests – Group 2 (Pavements, Bases, Subbases, Minor Drainage Structures, Construction Erosion Control).
- Certifications from other agencies or states may possibly be substituted.
Responsibilities
- Perform independent complex inspections of roadways and structure, construction processes, and materials to assure compliance with the construction contract.
- Perform moderately complex inspections or supervise other inspectors conducting routine and standardized inspections.
- Inspect asphalt and concrete for acceptable materials and mix; pavement for proper spreading, rolling, depth, alignment and compaction; roadways and structures for conformance to plans, and specifications; structural materials and members; placement of culverts; structural operations such as foundation excavation; placement of piling, reinforcing and structural steel, concrete and backfill; and traffic control and erosion control devices.
- Perform contract documentation duties, which include field measurements of pay items as well as other Department required documentation.
