About The Position

The Civic Engagement Commission (CEC) was established in November 2018 following voter approval of three ballot initiatives. The Commission's mission is to foster civic engagement across all New York City government agencies and to make decision-making processes accessible to all New Yorkers. Its mandated responsibilities include managing a citywide participatory budgeting program, offering poll site interpretation services, providing technical assistance to community boards, collaborating with community-based organizations and civic leaders to enhance awareness of City services, and aiding City agencies in developing their own civic engagement initiatives.

Requirements

  • A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties described above; or
  • High school graduation or equivalent and six years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties as described above; or
  • Education and/or experience which is equivalent to '1' or '2' above. However, all candidates must have at least one year of experience as described in '1' above.

Responsibilities

  • Support the Chief Program Officer in establishing timelines, priorities, communications, and opportunities for team collaboration among program leads.
  • Utilize project management tools to advance TRIE program goals across the Commission, focusing on efficient and effective cross-team outreach, communications, and digital skills.
  • Lead and support project management, conduct check-ins, and follow up on action items, identifying challenges and proposing solutions to keep projects on track.
  • Identify and propose collaboration opportunities to broaden engagement and support for programmatic and outreach goals among CEC programs, assisting the CPO and program teams in operationalizing these efforts.
  • Develop a Project Management Plan for each phase of The People’s Money program.
  • Liaise with Program Directors and lead staff to develop annual project plans and track deliverables for The People’s Money, including those involving other CEC teams (budget, operations, communications, digital equity, outreach).
  • Collaborate with team members to strategize best practices for project management and troubleshoot emerging issues.
  • Provide training to staff on the successful use of Airtable and other relevant Project Management tools as they are developed.
  • Provide facilitation, partnership management, and operational support for Participatory Budgeting (PB) phases, including the Borough Assembly, voting, and implementation phases of The People’s Money.
  • Staff and support the administrative needs of the Participatory Budgeting Advisory Committee.
  • Make recommendations to the Chief Program Officer and support program leads in the ongoing improvement and revision of PB processes and tools based on community and user feedback.
  • Support the program implementation phase by identifying the impact of process decisions on project scoping based on participation inputs, and ensuring this phase is incorporated into reporting and communication plans.
  • Provide data analytics and data visualization tools and assets for presentations and reports, including survey results and CBO deliverables.
  • Support the sortition process, from selection to onboarding.
  • Provide staff support for the CPO's high-priority projects, including convenings to increase awareness of CEC programs.
