The CDU Nursing Assistant will assist the Registered Nurse (RN) with the daily care of patients in the Clinical Decision Unit (CDU). This role involves direct patient care activities such as bathing, oral hygiene, feeding, and assisting with mobility. The Nursing Assistant will also be responsible for accurately measuring and documenting vital signs, intake and output, and daily weights, as well as maintaining patient records in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR). They will perform purposeful rounding, communicate patient needs to the RN, and assist with patient admissions, transfers, and discharges. Additionally, the role includes specimen collection, point-of-care testing, maintaining stock levels, cleaning equipment, and performing patient positioning and transporting duties. Nutritional support and skin integrity maintenance are also key responsibilities. Under RN direction, tasks may extend to IV removal, post-mortem care, and bladder scans. Adherence to infection prevention policies, including hand hygiene and aseptic techniques, is crucial. The position requires the ability to provide age-appropriate care based on principles of growth and development.
