About The Position

The Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) is seeking to hire a CDL Support Technician. This position is an HOURLY/WAGE position without state benefits. The CDL Support Technician is a technical position within a high-volume DMV regulatory unit. This position is responsible for researching, evaluating, and updating CDL and driver history records to ensure compliance with Federal and State regulations. The role focuses on maintaining the accuracy of driver history records and assisting in resolving duplicate pointers through the SPEXS system, helping Virginia remain compliant with REAL ID requirements. Wage positions are limited to no more than 1,500 hours per agency during the 12-month period of May 1 – April 30, regardless of the hire date. The wage employment period resets on May 1 of the following year. All wage employees are limited to working no more than 29 hours per week, on average, over the 12-month period. Wage positions do not include state benefits. Requirements

  • Demonstrated experience in high-volume data entry
  • Experience in customer service related to complex issue resolution
  • Experience in regulatory or public service environments with CDL management, driver history, or licensing
  • Experience interpreting complex documents, including federal and state regulations
  • Skilled in identifying and resolving record discrepancies for regulatory compliance
  • Experience in conducting research to verify and update records
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) for data management and reporting

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with DMV systems (e.g., OnBase, CSS, CDLIS, SPEXS)
  • Knowledge of FMCSA, REAL ID, and state regulations as they apply to driver records
