About The Position

The purpose of this job is to plan, develop, and manage the CDL Program while also providing CDL/truck driver training from the classroom phase through the end of the driving phase, adhering to all USDOT rules and regulations and fulfilling recording and reporting requirements of the SCDMV and NCCER. Monitoring student progress and providing concentrated training will ensure competent entry-level drivers and a good passing rate. This role will also implement and teach other training programs related to the trucking industries.

Requirements

  • Must hold a valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Must have at least 3 years of commercial driving experience.
  • A bachelor's degree and related instructional experience; OR an associate's degree plus 2 years of CDL driving experience and related instructional experience; OR 4 years of CDL driving experience and related instructional experience.
  • Ability to travel in the tri-county service delivery area.
  • Ability to work flexible hours to include nights and weekends as needed.

Nice To Haves

  • Training experience or Truck Driver Training Certification from SC Department of Motor Vehicles
  • Current 3rd Party Tester certification to test CDL A, CDL B, and CDL B with a Passenger Endorsement
  • Maintenance supervision experience overseeing maintenance teams, ensuring safety compliance, and managing truck maintenance operations to keep facilities and equipment running efficiently

Responsibilities

  • Plan, develop, and manage curriculum and delivery of the CDL Program.
  • Teach the hands-on portion of all types of courses in the truck driver training program, following established course outlines and USDOT and SCDMV rules and regulations.
  • Teach the hands-on portion of all types of courses in the heavy equipment operator training program, following established course outlines and NCCER rules and regulations.
  • Teach the classroom portion of all types of courses in the truck driver training program, following established course outlines and USDOT and SCDMV rules and regulations.
  • Teach the classroom portion of all types of courses in the heavy equipment operator training program, following established course outlines and NCCER rules and regulations.
  • Inspect and maintain the safety of training equipment, including making approved repairs.
  • Establish and maintain a good rapport with the SCDMV for acquiring CDL road test appointments, and administer CDL road test appointments as a licensed Safety Officer/Third Party Tester.
  • Provide direct student and program support, including recruiting, counseling, and informing potential students about training programs and job requirements.
  • Advise students about current job opportunities and counsel them on contacting employers, filling out applications, and preparing other documents.
  • Communicate with industry recruiters to set presentation appointments and advise students about companies.
  • Develop, revise, and update truck driving and heavy equipment courses, as well as any new courses requested by the industries.
  • Complete all recording and reporting requirements for truck driver training courses as required by SCDMV and USDOT.
  • Complete all recording and reporting requirements for heavy equipment operation courses as required by NCCER.
