About The Position

As a PennDOT CDL Operator with the Department of Transportation, you will become part of a team that takes pride in maintaining safe highways. This role offers hands-on work with a variety of tools and equipment. You will help keep travel routes open, reliable, and secure for the public. Start a career with Cumberland County Maintenance Organization that supports the movement of people and goods across the state. In this position, you will focus on operating highway construction and maintenance equipment while also carrying out important manual work on maintenance crews. The work you will do supports the safe and efficient upkeep of roadways across the Commonwealth.

Requirements

  • Possession of an active Pennsylvania Class A or B Commercial Driver's License or equivalent with the Air Brake Restriction (L) removed.
  • Possession of an active Medical Examiner’s Certificate in accordance with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration Regulations.
  • Must be able to perform essential job functions.
  • Successful completion of the Transportation Equipment Operator Trainee Program (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or Graduation from a Commercial Driver’s License Training School; or An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Nice To Haves

  • Obtain an active Tank Vehicle Endorsement (N) during the probationary period and continuously maintain it while employed in this job.
  • Obtain an active certification issued by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation in the operation of heavy trucks and loaders, and two additional pieces of construction equipment, within the probationary period.

Responsibilities

  • Operate trucks, loaders, and other assigned machinery safely and correctly
  • Maintain required CDL licensing and complete all checks and certifications for equipment use
  • Perform flagger duties to support safe work zones when not operating equipment
  • Carry out tasks such as clearing culverts, cutting brush, repairing guiderails, and using hand tools
  • Complete field adjustments, minor repairs, and daily servicing to keep equipment in proper condition
  • Follow safety procedures, report hazards, and help protect coworkers and the public
