Requirements

  • Possession of an active Pennsylvania Class A or B Commercial Driver's License or equivalent with the Air Brake Restriction (L) removed.
  • The (E) restriction must be removed.
  • Employees must demonstrate successful operation of equipment with a manual transmission.
  • Possession of an active Medical Examiner’s Certificate in accordance with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration Regulations.
  • Must be able to perform essential job functions.
  • Subject to Drug and Alcohol testing in accordance with Federal Regulations.

Nice To Haves

  • Successful completion of the Transportation Equipment Operator Trainee Program (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration)
  • Graduation from a Commercial Driver’s License Training School
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.
  • Obtain an active certification issued by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation in the operation of heavy trucks and loaders, and two additional pieces of construction equipment, within the probationary period.
  • Obtain an active Tank Vehicle Endorsement (N) during the probationary period and continuously maintain it while employed in this job.
  • Obtain additional certifications issued by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation on assigned pieces of equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Operate trucks, loaders, and other equipment used for highway and bridge maintenance
  • Maintain required CDL credentials and complete daily equipment checks and certifications
  • Perform flagging duties to guide traffic safely when not operating equipment
  • Use motorized and hand tools to complete tasks such as clearing brush, cleaning culverts, and repairing barriers
  • Carry out adjustments, minor repairs, and cleaning to keep equipment in safe working condition
  • Follow safety procedures and report hazards, injuries, and equipment issues
