PennDOT CDL Operator (Transportation Equipment Operator A)

Requirements
- Possession of an active Pennsylvania Class A or B Commercial Driver's License or equivalent with the Air Brake Restriction (L) removed.
- The (E) restriction must be removed.
- Employees must demonstrate successful operation of equipment with a manual transmission.
- Possession of an active Medical Examiner’s Certificate in accordance with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration Regulations.
- Must be able to perform essential job functions.
- Subject to Drug and Alcohol testing in accordance with Federal Regulations.
Nice To Haves
- Successful completion of the Transportation Equipment Operator Trainee Program (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration)
- Graduation from a Commercial Driver’s License Training School
- An equivalent combination of experience and training.
- Obtain an active certification issued by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation in the operation of heavy trucks and loaders, and two additional pieces of construction equipment, within the probationary period.
- Obtain an active Tank Vehicle Endorsement (N) during the probationary period and continuously maintain it while employed in this job.
- Obtain additional certifications issued by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation on assigned pieces of equipment.
Responsibilities
- Operate trucks, loaders, and other equipment used for highway and bridge maintenance
- Maintain required CDL credentials and complete daily equipment checks and certifications
- Perform flagging duties to guide traffic safely when not operating equipment
- Use motorized and hand tools to complete tasks such as clearing brush, cleaning culverts, and repairing barriers
- Carry out adjustments, minor repairs, and cleaning to keep equipment in safe working condition
- Follow safety procedures and report hazards, injuries, and equipment issues
