About The Position

As a leading organization in the maintenance of Pennsylvania's highways, the Department of Transportation, Centre County Maintenance Organization, is seeking to fill vacancies for full-time CDL Equipment Operators to support the maintenance of the county highway and bridge systems. This position focuses on skilled operation of highway equipment and hands-on maintenance work that supports safe travel across Pennsylvania.

Requirements

Maintain a valid CDL without air brake restrictions
Complete required equipment certifications
Possess an active Medical Examiner’s Certificate in accordance with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration Regulations
Possess an active Pennsylvania Class A or B Commercial Driver's License or equivalent with the Air Brake Restriction (L) removed
Operation of vehicles or equipment with a manual transmission
Obtain an active Tank Vehicle Endorsement (N) during the probationary period and continuously maintain it while employed in this job
Be able to perform essential job functions

Nice To Haves

Successful completion of the Transportation Equipment Operator Trainee (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration) Program
Graduation from a Commercial Driver’s License Training School
An equivalent combination of experience and training

Responsibilities

Operate trucks, loaders, and other assigned machinery needed for highway and bridge maintenance
Perform flagger duties to support safe traffic flow during maintenance activities
Use hand tools and motorized tools to complete tasks such as clearing culverts, cutting grass, and repairing guiderails
Carry out field adjustments, minor repairs, and preventative maintenance to support safe, efficient equipment operation
Follow safety procedures, report hazards, and help maintain a safe environment for coworkers and the public
