•$28 - $30•Onsite

About The Position

160 Driving Academy is hiring an experienced Class A driver to train students in preparation for their CDL exams. The instructor provides hands-on instruction in outdoor yards and on the road, covering pre-trip inspections, yard maneuvers, and driving with automatic and manual transmissions. The role is based at a designated yard and works alongside other instructors and a Lead Instructor, with occasional coverage at other regional yards. Instructors support students’ progress, maintain accurate records, report incidents and accidents, follow the defined curriculum, and help keep the yard and building clean and presentable. The position also includes assisting with truck transfers to repair operations and neighboring yards. A 90-day probationary period applies to ensure adherence to safety, compliance, and curriculum requirements. This is local work intended for experienced drivers, with most yards operating a Monday–Friday schedule. Some higher-volume yards may operate seven days a week with alternative shifts. Occasional coverage at another regional yard may involve an overnight hotel stay; per diem is paid, and mileage is paid when using a personal vehicle. Reliable, punctual attendance is essential. The role requires climbing in and out of a tractor cab, sitting and standing for extended periods, and demonstrating driving maneuvers. Compensation includes opportunities for annual merit increases based on business performance and a monthly shared bonus pool tied to yard first-time pass rates and student ratings. Additional compensation includes an accident-free bonus for top-performing yards and paid hours for placement fairs and truck care during scheduled downtime. Benefits include shared-cost medical and dental coverage, paid vacation, attendance and birthday paid days off, relocation assistance for qualifying moves, and a referral bonus. Branded gear and access to yard laptops are provided. The company describes a career path from Yard Instructor to Assistant Lead Instructor, Lead Instructor, and Regional Manager.
