CDL Driver Trainee
About The Position
JTB Hawaii, Inc. is hiring a CDL Driver Trainee to complete approximately 30 to 35 days of classroom and on-the-road training in commercial vehicle operation. The trainee will learn to transport JTB Hawaii guests and customers along designated routes throughout Oahu in a professional and friendly manner. Training includes defensive driving, onboarding and online learning, customer service, T-Bus training, pre- and post-trip procedures, operation of Travel Plaza Transportation passenger equipment, wash rack procedures, HI-Bus (Trolley and EV) routes and deviations, route documentation, JTB Look arrival and departure transfers, and other routes and transfer services around Oahu.
Requirements
- High school graduate.
- At least 21 years of age.
- Possess a valid Hawaii driver’s license and a totally clean driver abstract.
- Possess a commercial driver’s permit or a Class B or C CDL with air brake and passenger endorsements.
- Be able to drive commercial vehicles requiring a Class B and/or C CDL.
- Be able to communicate with customers in English and/or Japanese using a two-way radio, cell phone, public address system, and microphone.
- Be able to work independently and cooperatively with others, and interact professionally and positively with employees, business partners, and customers.
- Be able to multitask while the vehicle is in motion and communicate with Dispatch over a two-way radio.
- Possess visual acuity, including peripheral awareness, eye coordination, depth perception, focusing ability, and color vision.
- Be able to exercise self-control, handle stressful situations, and deal with angry customers.
- Be able to work with concentration, accuracy, and attention to detail.
Nice To Haves
- At least one year of customer service or hospitality-related experience is preferred.
Responsibilities
- Complete the 40-hour Taptco classroom Defensive Driving Training Course, onboarding and online training, Customer Service training, and T-Bus training.
- Complete pre- and post-trip training and behind-the-wheel training on Travel Plaza Transportation passenger equipment, as well as wash rack training and procedures.
- Complete training on all HI-Bus (Trolley and EV) routes and deviation routes for A.M. and P.M. shifts, and learn to document daily route sheets.
- Complete route training for JTB Look arrival and departure transfers, including departure cards and arrival hotel lists from Olioli Station.
- Train on non-Japanese routes, luaus, wedding transfers, charters, and locations around Oahu.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
