About The Position

The CDL Driver Lead at dnata Catering is responsible for supporting and coordinating daily driver operations within a fast-paced aviation catering environment. This role serves as a working lead and operational point of contact for CDL Drivers, ensuring flights are catered safely, accurately, efficiently, and on time while maintaining compliance with all airline, TSA, ramp safety, HACCP, and company standards. In addition to safely operating catering trucks and company vehicles, the CDL Driver Lead provides day-to-day guidance, training support, and operational oversight to driver teams while helping drive accountability, communication, and service excellence across the operation. This position plays a critical role in supporting dispatch coordination, workflow execution, operational readiness, and maintaining strong relationships with airline partners and internal departments.

Requirements

  • Valid Class A or Class B CDL with air brake endorsement required.
  • Ability to meet all requirements necessary to obtain a Port ID in accordance with TSA regulations
  • Strong leadership presence and ability to motivate teams in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize operational demands effectively.
  • Reliable with excellent attendance and punctuality.
  • Flexible availability including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Ability to lift, push, and maneuver heavy objects including carts, racks, and equipment.
  • Ability to work safely in high-volume operational environments.
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate in English.
  • Strong customer service mindset and professional demeanor.

Nice To Haves

  • High School Diploma or GED preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years of CDL driving experience preferred.
  • Prior lead, trainer, dispatch coordination, or team leadership experience preferred.
  • Previous airline catering, logistics, transportation, warehouse, or aviation operations experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Support and coordinate daily driver operations to ensure all flights are catered accurately and within required timelines.
  • Serve as a lead resource for CDL Drivers during assigned shifts.
  • Assist with driver task delegation, dispatch coordination, and operational communication.
  • Monitor driver workflow, route execution, and operational efficiency.
  • Support onboarding and training of new CDL Drivers on operational procedures, safety expectations, and customer service standards.
  • Escalate operational issues, delays, safety concerns, or staffing challenges to leadership in a timely manner.
  • Lead by example through professionalism, accountability, and operational execution.
  • Safely operate catering trucks and company vehicles on the airfield and surrounding operational areas.
  • Load and unload all carts, trash, and items to be laundered to and from catering trucks to designated aircraft safely and efficiently.
  • Coordinate directly with flight crews while maintaining positive customer relations.
  • Conduct pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections and report maintenance or safety concerns immediately.
  • Ensure catering equipment, trucks, and operational areas remain clean and organized.
  • Support on-time departures through proactive communication and operational awareness.
  • Perform all duties safely to prevent injury to self and others.
  • Follow all Ramp Safety policies and procedures, including wearing required PPE and safety vests while on the airfield.
  • Ensure compliance with HACCP, GMP, sanitation, and food handling procedures.
  • Support operational compliance with TSA, airline, airport, and company regulations.
  • Promote and reinforce a strong safety culture within the driver team.
  • Report safety incidents, operational concerns, or compliance issues immediately.
  • Communicate clearly and professionally with Operations, Dispatch, Culinary, QA, and airline representatives.
  • Support a positive team environment focused on accountability, urgency, and service excellence.
  • Assist leadership with operational updates, staffing coverage, and shift transitions.
